Obituary for Daniel James Dahlgard

Daniel James  Dahlgard
Daniel James Dahlgard of Newtown passed away peacefully at the age of 62 on April 8, 2016 at Masonicare Newtown, CT with his loving and dedicated family by his side.

Dan was born March 24, 1954 in New Haven, CT. Son of the late Warren and Marion (Hart) Dahlgard. He was predeceased by his sibling Warren Dahlgard Jr. Dan grew up in Branford and Old Saybrook and spent his summers at Lanphiers Cove in Branford. Dan spent most of his free time fishing in Long Island Sound.

Dan attended Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA), class of 1976. He graduated with a B.S. in Marine Transportation. He also served as adjunct professor for MMA from 1978 to 1979. He was honorably discharged from the Navy. In 1979, he joined Stolt-Nielsen Transportation Group Inc. as a ship operator. Dan remained with Stolt-Nielsen for 27 years, ultimately holding the position of Service Operations Manager before joining Chembulk Tankers Groupin April 2007. Dan served as Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Chembulk Group, these wonderful colleagues were his second family.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Rebeka and children Jennifer Magarelli and husband Jimmy, and son James. His wife will always remember him as a loving a devoted husband with a kind smile that would melt her heart.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 12 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church Wednesday, April 13 at 11am. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
